The governmental and agency costs associated with obtaining a fiancee visa as well as a spousal or marriage visa have been rapidly on the rise in recent years. Many people want to know what costs and fees are associated with these processes so we sat down with an immigration expert L Tod Schlosser, Esq., and asked him to detail all of the fees associated with the particular visas and this is what he had to say.

Currently the K1 fiancee visa has approximately $1,000 dollars in governmental fees associated with it. The first fee is the application fee which currently stands at $455.00. The next fees a fiancee visa petitioner can expect to pay are the Embassy fee of $350.00, and the medical exam fee of approximately $200.00. The medical exam fee varies slightly from country to country but all medical exams are conducted at Embassy approved and designated facilities so Mr. Schlosser cautions not to attempt to get your fiancee a medical exam early to save money as an exam at an Embassy approved facility will still be required.

L. Tod Schlosser, Esq., indicates that the fees associated with a K3 visa are tied in with the CR1 application process as it is mandatory to file a CR1 before you are permitted to file a K3. Since the applications are linked there is no fee to file the K3 spousal visa petition. This has always been a bit confusing but Mr. Schlosser indicates that if you contact him, or any competent immigration attorney, they will be able to explain how the CR1 and K3 work together. If the K3 marriage visa petition makes it to the Embassy before the CR1 the costs associated with the K3 are the same $350.00 and approximately $200.00 associated with the K1 fiancee visa for Embassy and medical exam fees.

Finally, when discussing the fees associated with the different visa categories attorney Schlosser indicated that the CR1 filing fee is currently $355.00 payable to the USCIS. In addition to the filing fee, the National Visa Service Center will collect fees totaling approximately 500.00 as interview and documental review fees. Lastly, a CR 1 interviewee will be required to submit to a medical exam at an approximate cost of 200.00.

Immigration attorney L. Tod Schlosser indicates that these fees assume there are no children involved and as always are subject to change. For current fees and visa processing times contact L.
